- Decide what exactly you want to sell. The great thing about being a wholesale dealer is that you can buy large quantities for a lower price and then sell them at a markup. However, if you don't do your market research first, you'll end up with boxes full of things that will never sell. So DO YOUR RESEARCH. Find out what's "hot." Find out what people are going to want to buy and stick with it.
- What you will sell is depending on the amount of money you have at your disposal. When you start try to find items that are chip and have long shelf life. Try books for example.
- Purchase a wholesale license. Research the license requirements of your state (business, wholesale, etc.) You can purchase the license through the city or possibly online for cheaper (but beware of scammers).
- Receive a tax id number. This number is what allows you to purchase things at wholesale price.
- Start networking and set up buyers who want to buy what you want to sell. Once you have a whole lot of buyers, you'll have a better idea of how much you need to purchase from the wholesale supplier.
- Find a reliable wholesale supplier. Once again, DO YOUR RESEARCH. Read their customer reviews and make sure that they are not only reliable, but that they offer what you're looking for at a low price. Make sure to ask the manufacturers what they need in order to sell to you i.e. what minimum volume they sell, etc.
- Start selling! Know that making the big bucks won't happen over night, but that with hard work and a solid business plan you'll be making money in no time!
